Kanger Subtank Mini Review
We decided it was time to take a closer look at the new Kanger Subtank Mini Clearomiser. Right out of the box we were pleased as we could tell it was going to be a better design than its bigger predecessor, the Kanger Subtank, because of its smaller size and profile. A lot of people complained about the size and the overlap of the older version when it was installed and it looks like Kangertech listened to what people were saying and did something about it. Here is what we found when we tried out the Kanger Subtank Mini.
Key Features and Specifications
Here is a list of some of the things we really like about the Kanger Subtank Mini:
- Kanger Subtank Dimensions: 2 1/8” Length x 7/8” Diameter (not including the drip tip) Smaller 22mm size diameter
- Included in this clearomiser are both a Sub-ohm 0.5 ohm coil and a LR 1.2 ohm coil (the sub-ohm coil dramatically increases the vapour production and flavour)

- All stainless steel 304 base hardware
- Improved two channel airflow control valve
- Standard 510 connector
- New Japanese Organic Cotton Coil Head
- PEEK insulator installed on the RBA coil
- The tank has an RBA base which allows you to install your own coils
- A nice 4.5 ml tank capacity which is exceptional for its size
- Its compatible with a 510 drip tip
The package contains everything you need to install and maintain this Mini Subtank and includes:

These are the known compatible devices but as the Kanger Subtank Mini grows in popularity, which it surely will, you can expect this list to get much bigger: Mech Mods (what we tested it on), Sigelei 30W, 50W, and 100W, IPV Mini, IPV3, IPV2, Smoktech XPRO50 BT50, Vamo7 35W, iStick 30W and 50W and almost any 30W mod.back to menu ↑
As we mentioned our first impression was highly favourable. The 3mm difference between the older Kanger Subtank and the Kanger Subtank Mini drastically improves the fit of the clearomiser. The subtank now fits much more flush on the e-cig and also gives it better balance when handling and is lighter overall.
The Japanese cotton coils are very uniquely square shaped and that is said to make them last longer, enhance the flavour and it gives it a larger heating surface. When these coils are combined with the sub-ohm coil it produces a huge volume of vapour.
We also liked the enhanced airflow control valve and the Pyrex glass tank. Although the airflow valve does not let you fully close it anymore (and there is really no need for this) it is highly adjustable and the two channels that provide the airflow are a great design. The tank has exceptional capacity for a clearomiser that is considered a mini.
The unit was very easy to install and everything you need is included in the box that the Kanger Subtank Mini comes in. The only thing we noticed when installing the clearomiser was that you had to be careful not to get any liquid in the centre tube when refilling; if you do you will hear a gurgling noise when using. Just remove the liquid from the centre tube and then the noise will go away.
The accessories that come with the Subtank Mini provide the icing on the cake as a package. It really helped make everything convenient to change in and out and will help those of you that are heavy into mods with your e-cigs.back to menu ↑
Giving It a Test Run
There are a lot of clearomisers that look good coming out of the box and after they are installed on an e-cig, but they don’t perform as good as they look; with the Kanger Subtank Mini Clearomiser it definitely performs as good as it looks. One of the first things we noticed was the substantial throat hit and enhanced flavour when using the sub-ohm coil; you probably do not want to use this with more than 6mg of nicotine as most people will find it too harsh.
We did not like the size of the older Kanger Subtank but we were always impressed with its performance and the newer Kanger Subtank Mini has not lost any of that performance capability in its new design; as a matter of fact, it might even be a slight improvement in overall performance.back to menu ↑
Hats off to Kangertech for listening to their critics and improving upon their already good Kanger Subtank design.
