Things You Didn’t Know About the E-Cigarette Vaping Industry in the UK

Vaping and e-cigarettes have gaining quite a bit of popularity in recent years. Most people know that vaping is much safer than smoking tobacco cigarettes. You may have also heard how there is no second-hand smoke with vaping, keeping non-smokers out of harm’s way.  With 2.1 million adults vaping in the United Kingdom, many people are definitely making the choice to choose vaping over smoking. Even if you have been vaping for years, there are many facts about electronic cigarettes that you may not know.

Whether you are an experienced vaper or new to e-cigs and looking to give them a try, keep reading for some surprising facts that you may not have heard before.

E-Cigarettes Save Lives

Currently, there are about 1.3 billion smokers worldwide, and nearly six million smoking-related deaths each year. In the UK, smoking causes close to 100,000 deaths each year, which is roughly 18% of all deaths.

Traditional cigarettes contain not only tobacco and nicotine, but about 4,000 other chemicals that severely impact the smoker’s health. Not to mention that, when cigarettes are smoked, these chemicals and carcinogens are released into the air, affecting anyone who happens to be around a smoker when they light up.

It has been reported that up to 54,000 lives could be saved in Great Britain alone in one year if smokers were to quit cigarettes and vape instead.  This infographic provides detailed information about how lives could be saved with the switch from smoking to vaping.

People Vape to Stop Smoking

More than half of vapers have stated that they began vaping as a way to stop smoking tobacco cigarettes. Around 34% say they continue to vape to avoid smoking again.

One surprising fact about vaping that many people do not know is that you can actually control how much nicotine you inhale. For people trying to quit their habit, this is amazing. You can gradually reduce your nicotine intake until you are vaping e-juices that do not contain any nicotine at all. Ex-smokers can still enjoy the warm throat hit, and even the tobacco flavour, but completely free of nicotine.

Vaping is Most Popular Among Current Smokers

Like all potentially harmful products, watch groups and government agencies particularly worry about the effects on new users, especially children and adolescents. The cigarette industry has had a not so great history with marketing to those who have never smoked, in order to gain new customers. Knowing the negative health effects of smoking tobacco, this often gives the tobacco industry a bad image.

However, this doesn’t seem to be the case with electronic-cigarettes. Research indicates that 65% of people who vape are current smokers, likely trying to ease themselves off of cigarettes and finally quit. About 33% of people of vape have successfully quit cigarettes and are still able to get the nicotine they require in a much healthier way, as they are not exposed to the thousands of chemicals they were inhaling when they smoked traditional cigarettes.

Of the less than 1% of people who vape that have never smoked cigarettes, almost none of them become addicted to vaping. Many use the e-liquid that does not contain any nicotine. They just enjoy the flavour, aroma, and the overall vaping experience.

Vapers Have Options

With traditional cigarettes, the tobacco industry is pretty much in control of what you smoke and how you smoke it.  With vaping, it’s a completely different story. There are a host of choices that you can make to customise your vape to your specific needs or preferred experience.

  • Nicotine Levels: As mentioned before, e-liquids come in a variety of nicotine strengths. You can control how much you need and gradually lower the amount, even down to 0mg.
  • Flavours: There are hundreds of e-juice flavours, and more being created each month. Of course you can stick to your traditional tobacco flavour, but if you are craving something different, there is something for you.  Want to satisfy your sweet tooth? Try dessert flavours in chocolate or champagne and strawberries. Looking for something refreshing? Try a light fruity vape flavour such as apple, peach, or a berry medley.
  • DIY: Once you become more experienced with vaping, there are a host of suppliers in the UK (and of course, worldwide) that allow you to customise and create your own e-liquids. You can even begin to customise your e-cigs and other vaping devices.

Whether you choose to vape because you would like to stop smoking, or you just want to enjoy the sensation and flavours, there is probably a lot you have never heart before about vaping. It’s important to get as much information as possible, as it could greatly influence how you chose to vape. One thing is for certain, with all of the options available in the vaping industry today, you are bound to find a vaping style that works for you.
